Contrary to rumors that the Giants are preparing to fire Brian Sabean, ownership has decided it wants Sabean back next year for a 12th season as general manager, and the two sides have begun discussions about a contract extension, The Chronicle has learned.

Managing general partner Peter Magowan said in spring training that Sabean's fate would be decided after the season, suggesting the team's performance in 2007 would decide his fate. Even though the Giants are in last place in the National League West with a 38-48 record, Magowan apparently has had a change of heart and wants to make an effort to lock up Sabean sooner rather than later.

샌프란시스코 크로니클은 자이언츠가 브라이언 세이빈을 해고하려 한다던 루머와는 반대로, 자이언츠의 오너쉽은 내년에도 세이빈에게 12번째 시즌을 맡기기로 결정했으며, 다른 한편으로는 연장계약을 준비하고 있다는 소스를 입수했다.

최고 경영자인 피터 매고완은 스프링 트레이닝에서 세이빈의 운명이 시즌 뒤 결정될 것이라고 말했었으며, 그에 따라 2007 시즌 팀의 성적이 그의 잔류에 영향을 끼칠 것임을 시사했었다. 그러나 자이언츠가 38승 48패로 내셔널리그 서부지구에서 꼴등을 달리고 있음에도, 매고완은 그의 심경에 변화가 거의 없으며 세이빈에게 좀더 기회를 주기를 원하고 있다.

The reasons are unclear, and nobody involved in the discussions would comment Tuesday. But even in putting Sabean on notice during spring training, Magowan said, "I think the world of Brian. He's done some great things for the organization. I expect him to be our general manager in the future." Also, ownership was said to be impressed with the process Sabean and his staff employed in preparing for the amateur draft last month in which the Giants had three first-round and three compensatory-round picks.

There are no guarantees the contract extension talks between the Giants and Sabean will result in an agreement. Sabean has stated publicly that he wants to return. However, he has been frustrated at times by ownership's involvement in player personnel decisions and might seek assurances of more autonomy.

화요일에 있었던 논의에 아무도 참석하지 않았기에 그 이유는 확실치 않다. 그러나 스프링 트레이닝동안 세이빈의 거취에 대해 말하는 동안에도 매고완은 "나는 세이빈의 세계를 알고있으며, 그는 이 조직에 대단한 일을 해주었다. 그리고 미래에도 그가 우리 단장으로 남아있으리라 믿는다"라고 했었다.

또한 오너쉽은 세이빈과 그의 스태프들이 3장의 1라운드 픽과 3장의 보상픽을 행사했던 지난달의 아마추어 드래프트를 준비해온 과정에 좋은 인상을 받았다고 한다.

자이언츠와 세이빈이 곧 연장계약에 대한 합의에 도달할 것이라는 보장은 없다. 세이빈은 일단 공식적으로는 자이언츠로의 복귀를 원한다고 천명했지만, 때떄로 오너쉽이 선수 개인적인 면에 관여하는데 대한 불만을 표시했으며, 프런트의 자율성을 보장받고싶어할 것 같다. (베니테즈 트레이드 이야기인 듯..-_-)

Rumors circulated last week among scouts that Sabean would be fired shortly after the All-Star Game. Other rumors said Yankees GM Brian Cashman would be fired after this season and Sabean, a former Yankees scouting director, would be the leading candidate to replace him. However, those rumors seemed to emanate from New York and possibly were spread by the Yankees to light a fire under Cashman.

지난주 스카우터들 사이에는 세이빈이 올스타전 이후 곧 해임될 것이라는 루머가 떠돌았으며, 또다른 루머로는 양키스 단장인 브라이언 캐쉬맨이 올시즌을 마치고 해고된다면 전 양키스 스카우팅 디렉터였던 세이빈이 그 자리의 후보가 될 것이라는 썰도 있었다.

그러나 그러한 루머들은 뉴욕 쪽에서 나온 이야기인 듯 하고, 아마 양키스에서 솔솔 흘러나오는 캐쉬먼 해임설 때문인 듯 보인다.

Sabean became Giants general manager after the 1996 season and engineered an instant turnaround of a franchise that went 68-94 that season. After a series of moves that winter, most notably the trade of Matt Williams that netted Jeff Kent and others, the Giants went 90-72 in 1997 and won the National League West. The Giants reached the playoffs three times in the next six seasons, as well, and went to the World Series in 2002, losing in seven games to the Angels. He built a reputation as a shrewd trader and negotiator, although his reputation was tarnished by the 2003 deal that sent pitchers Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano to Minnesota for catcher A.J. Pierzynski.

The Giants are in the midst of their third consecutive losing season, and many fans have called for Sabean's head. But many in baseball believe Sabean has gotten a bum rap because he has been forced by ownership to continue building teams around an aging Barry Bonds with older role players rather than spread payroll around and concentrate more on the farm system.

자이언츠는 3년 연속으로 루징시즌을 맞고 있으며, 대부분의 팬들은 세이빈의 수뇌부 교체를 요구해왔다. 그러나 야구계의 많은 사람들은 페이롤을 늘리거나 팜 시스템에 주력하기보다는 나이먹은 배리 본즈와 다른 롤플레이어들을 위주로 팀을 편성하기를 강요했던 오너쉽 때문에 그가 누명을 써왔다고 믿고있다.

ㅅㅂ.  이 무슨 마른하늘에 날벼락같은 개소리란 말인가!!  3년연속 루징시즌에, 몇년만에 지구꼴지가 확실해보이는 샌프를 앞으로도 또 골빈단장이 이끌어야 한다는 소리는, 자이언츠 팬들 다 나가죽으라는 소리?

최근 세이빈이 한 트레이드를 보라.  지금 저 애들 주고 얻어온 멤버들 : 폰슨, 진숙희, 리키 리데, 호킨스, 힐랭이중 제몫 한 넘이 단 한쉑히라도 있는감??  이런 캐사기급 트레이드 능력을 가진 단장에게 가장 중요할 수 있는 올시즌 데드라인의 트레이드를 맡긴다?  (미친거 아냐?)

게다가 최근에 베니테즈 내보낼때도 기분나쁘다고 한마디 하는 꼬라지 보게나. 그나마 베니테즈가 나가서 헤네시가 그만큼이라도 막아주는건 눈이 안뵈는지..

그리고 그동안 팜에 있는 애들 노땅들에게 로스터 주느라고 썩혀서 다 AAAA급 만들어놓고.  프랜슨도 키워줘야 할 시기에 더램 백업이나 하게 만들어서 성장은 더뎌지고..  아놔..-_-

이런데, 세이빈에게 미래를 맡기겠다???? 

에헤라디여~~  세이빈이나 매고완이나 오너쉽 나머지 넘들이나 다 똑같은 넘들이요 도찐개찐이구나.  일만이천 샌프팬들의 가슴 찢어지는 소리가 들리지도 않더냐..-_-
