If the answer were simple, he would have fixed it by now. Nobody feels worse about Zito's subpar performances than he does. Partly, he's still adjusting to new surroundings and trying to find a comfort zone.
간단하게 말하자면.. 지금은 아마 그도 모를 것 같아. 기대이하의 성적에 대해 그만큼 더 침울해하는 사람도 없지. 어느정도는 아직 새로운 환경에 적응하면서 좀더 편안한 존을 찾고있다고도 볼 수 있고. 너무 심리학적인 이야기로 들릴 수도 있겠지만, 편안함을 느끼는 단순한 현상은 투수에게는 무척 중요해. 강한 동작 속에서 밸런스를 유지하고 60피트 6인치 이내에서 일해야하는 투수의 경우엔 특히나 말이지. 12년전에 탐 글래빈이 그런 이야기를 해준 적이 있는데 그 이후에는 다른 투수들도 그런 식으로 보이더군.
I know that sounds like psychobabble, but just the simple phenomenon of feeling comfortable is exceedingly important to a pitcher who makes his living trying to keep his balance on a bump and working within 60-feet, 6-inch dimensions. Tom Glavine told me that 12 years ago, and since then I've heard numerous other pitchers echo him. Zito also happens to possess above-average intelligence, which makes me suspect he might be thinking too much when he should be going after hitters. His better performances this season have been his more aggressive ones. As disappointing as this year has been, I wouldn't give up on him yet.

Will the Giants go after All-Star free agents this offseason such as Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter or Eric Byrnes? I personally think we should get two of those guys and forget about Alex Rodriguez, but I won't be upset if we get A-Rod. I heard on KNBR we should go after all three, but I would imagine that would be impossible. I know this is only possible if we decide to let Barry Bonds go, which I believe is the most likely scenario, whether it be retirement or off to the AL to pursue his chase for 3,000 hits.

The Giants will be lucky to get one of these guys, with the possible exception of Jones, whose low batting average is a concern. Since they're likely to finish the season with 90 losses or thereabouts, they'll have to overpay to attract a decent free agent. Of course, they've proven extremely capable of this.

I'd like to see the Giants give Nate Schierholtz, Fred Lewis, et al, a legitimate shot to claim an outfield spot, or even two of them. But adding a Hunter or Byrnes would intensify competition in the rest of the outfield while boosting the lineup (and the defense, in Hunter's case). As for Bonds, I won't predict whether he stays or goes, but moving forward will be a heck of a lot more difficult if he's still a Giant.

Why is Barry Bonds still around? I know if I were Peter Magowan or Brian Sabean, I would look for every possibility to trade him or not sign him at the end of the year. His attitude and laziness really affect the team.

Bonds' attitude and laziness weren't a problem when the Giants were winning more than 90 games a year. I don't like players with a me-first mind-set, either. But the Giants have bigger problems than him, such as improving their farm system and bolstering the middle of the batting order.

Certainly, although Milwaukee's Ryan Braun or Houston's Hunter Pence, who's currently on the disabled list, likely will win the award at the current rate. Matt Cain finished fifth in the 2006 National League ROY vote; that's probably where we'll find Lincecum come November.

I think it was one of the stupidest trades I have ever seen when we traded Jeremy Accardo for Vinnie Chulk and Shea Hillenbrand, partially because Hillenbrand was with us for a whole half a year and did virtually nothing, and quite frankly, Chulk is not very good. We need a closer, and Accardo was perfect for the role. Is there a chance we get Accardo back?

McClain is a career Minor Leaguer who strikes out a lot but can hit the long ball. What's keeping the Giants from giving this guy a shot?

As a lifelong Giants fan, I am willing to give Sabean another chance. I suspect that he still has it in him to field a winning ballclub. Being a fan the past few years, and watching the Giants get older and less productive, has forced me to give an ultimatum to the team. If the Giants re-sign Pedro Feliz with his whopping .292 on-base percentage, I will never root for the Giants again. Never! I find it hard to believe that we can't find someone as productive as Feliz in our farm system. Is it really that hard to not swing at every offspeed pitch out of the strike zone?

As you've heard or read, all signs point to Alex Rodriguez as being the heir apparent. Assuming he finishes this season with 510 home runs or thereabouts, and that Bonds tops out at around 760, Rodriguez would need six or seven seasons to break the record. At age 32, barring injuries or a sharp decline in performance, he's definitely capable.

You take a common but extremely misguided stance when it comes to discussing Sabean's recent performance in a light that paints him as being restricted by Magowan's desire to have Bonds be part of the ballclub. Where would this lineup be without Bonds? Look up the stats. He is the only regular who posts an OPS above the Major League average. That's pitiful. Sabean made the decision to bring everyone else in. So take away Magowan's executive decision, and what do you have? Further, pointing out that Sabean tried to sign Gary Matthews Jr., Juan Pierre, and Carlos Lee is not a defense. Longterm deals to any of those players would have looked horrible 2-3 years from now (Lee), if not immediately (Pierre, Matthews Jr. given the HGH accusation). Sabean has financially strapped this ballclub while fielding a far-below-average lineup. Relief won't come next year, as the team has already committed over $80 million in payroll, the free-agent market is not good and there's only one open position where the team has a viable prospect (Schierholtz). Still care to defend Sabean?

Actually, yes, although I fully agree with you that signing Pierre would have been dreadful, let's see how things play out with Matthews and Lee. I'm not contradicting myself, however. My wish, which is one shared by many in the so-called baseball community, was for Sabean to receive a chance to construct a team and run an organization without the albatross of Bonds, who has become the cynosure (look that one up, big boy) of the Giants, sometimes to their detriment.

Because of Bonds, the Giants have drafted poorly (or not at all) because they surrender compensation picks due to the free agents they have signed to surround him with complementary pieces. He has occupied a disproportionately large percentage of the payroll. Quite soon -- maybe -- Sabean will have the opportunity to be a "normal" general manager. If he can't improve the club's direction in the next two years, by all means let him go. First, let's see how he does.
